Business owners should file their SDPD Letter of Agency every six months
One of the tools local business owners have that should be utilized is the filing of their SDPD Letter of Agency. The SDPD Letter of Agency allows a letter to be on file from the property owner or representative (lessee) stating trespassers are prohibited. When the form is filled out and submitted, the information is added to the address in the police dispatch system as a pop up file. The pop up file advises the officer that the property owner is willing to press charges against trespassers or illegal lodgers.
If the violators refuse to depart, the officers can take enforcement absent of the owner being on scene and allows the owner to not have to stand by at the location awaiting officers arrival. The form is only good for 6 months, due to state law and determination by the City Attorney’s office. The form cannot be double-side with the second half of the year added as the committee had requested.
The law is firm on this and if you look at the form it is very self explanatory and easy to understand.
