61st Annual OB Kite Festival 3.6.10

As sure as spring is around the corner, you can be sure it's time to get out and go fly a kite. And kids of all ages have been marking kite season at one event for 61 years.

The 61st Annual Ocean Beach Kiwanis Kite Festival once again takes flight on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

The community of O.B. welcomes all of San Diego for a fun day of festivities including a crafts fair, parade, food and entertainment along with kite making, decorating and a flying contest.

Awards will be given in each division (Toddlers & Preschoolers; Kindergarteners, 1st & 2nd graders, 3rd & 4th graders, 5th & 6th graders, 7th & 8th graders, High School & Open Division), as well as for Most Unique, Best Decorated, Best Theme.

 

Schedule:
9 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Kite making at Ocean Beach Rec. Center, all materials will be supplied.

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Hot dogs and punch for participants & live band on Ocean Beach Elementary School court yard.

9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Craft Fair Booths, Amusement Rides on Santa Monica Blvd.

1 p.m.
Kite Judging on Ocean Beach Elementary School court yard.
The Kite Parade begins at 2:05 p.m. down Santa Monica Ave. and ends at the Beach with freestyle kite flying.

Events are in the vicinity of the Ocean Beach Recreation Center, 4726 Santa Monica Blvd. San Diego, CA 92107.
